the beginning

i began my journey to a healthier, fitter me a few months ago. i am neither overweight, nor underweight. nor am i really looking to lose or gain weight. firming up and building muscle definition is my aim. and while i have seen progress, i am not quite on the track i'd like to be.

you see, i've fallen into a rut of sorts. monday through thursday i am on fire! i'm organized. my meals are planned and prepped. my workouts are etched in stone, or marker rather, on the whiteboard. i breathe clean, healthy eating, cardio and lifting. then friday rolls around and i tend to taper off. i may hit the gym, or harness my Om on the mat, but lately i've been giving into that little voice that says i NEED a rest day (okay, warranted. deserved!). but then that sneaky little voice convinces me that i also DESERVE to have a cheat meal, or two, or three. i deserve a drink. a dessert. a night out. another rest day... you get the point... by the time sunday night rolls around, i realize that i've willingly leaped, no thrown myself from the wagon, for yet another consecutive weekend!! and my precious progress? well, it's all but null after a three day vaca from being healthy.

and this is why things must change.

i'm not saying i'm going to go 100% nutso and completely banish all things "anti-clean eating," live and breath only fitness, change my residence to the gym and never go out. let's get real, i reserve the right to have fun... but it is time for discipline. consistency. restraint. moderation

after a weekend of fun, sun, food, drinks and going out (the in-laws were in town and boy, do they love to party!), my digestive system has all but attempted to commit suicide. not bueno. good times are fun and dandy, but when it ends in internal pain and discomfort that lands you in bed for the day, is it really worth it???? i think not.
and so it begins...
